Apterous: green or chestnut brown with a light spot on abdomen, numerous hairs present, antennae short, cornicles short.
Alate: with dark dorsal and ventral stripes and highly pigmented marginal sclerites; cornicles short, cylindrical and dark, cauda knobbed.

Chaitophorus populeti lives on underside of leaves and on young shoots.
In spring, colonies are visited by ants.
