This genus is dependent on Betula

Apterous characterized by presence of long capitate hairs.
Apterous and alates bear long antennae; cornicles short, cauda knobbed and a bilobed anal patch.
Alates show wing with radial sector partly effaced.

Two closely related species, distinguished more easily in the wing morphology:

  • Calaphis betulicola: cornicles short and pigmented at tip
  • Calaphis flava: cornicles short and light-colored
