Subfamily : Chaitophorinae
This genus is characterized by individuals covered with hairs and bearing short cylindrical cornicles.

This genus comprises numerous species and colonizes exclusively Acer (maple) and sometimes Aesculus (horse chestnut).

Periphyllus, in the subfamily Chaitophorinae is close to the genus Chaitophorus  from the morphological point of view, can be distinguished throiugh its individuals : du point de vue morphologique, il se distingue par des individus

  • larger than Chaitophorus
  • with cauda very short and rounded
  • cornicles longer than the diameter of the base
