Grossulariaceae

Grossulariaceae

Shrubs of the genus Ribes are cultivated for their variably coloured fruit such as redcurrants and blackcurrants or as ornamental plants.

This family groups together the redcurrant (Ribes rubrum),   gooseberry (Ribes grossularia, Ribes uva-crispa) and blackcurrant (Ribes nigrum).

Redcurrants are cultivated especially in Rhône-Alpes, Auvergne and Ile-de-France and the blackcurrant is mainly produced in Val de Loire, Burgundy and the Rhône Valley.
