Calaphidinae have antennae with 6 segments. The length of the segments and the length of processus terminalis vary according to the genus.
In adults, secondary rhinaries are often oval or elongated but sometimes round.
Cornicles are short.
The cauda is button-shaped and the anal plate is usually bilobed.
The annual cycle, without host alternation, takes place on Fagaceae and Betulaceae but also on Gramineae and Fabaceae.
