Asteraceae

This family, also called Compositae, brings together the sunflower, an oleaginous plant, but also market garden plants such as lettuce, chicory - Cichorium intybus, endive C. endivia, artichoke, salsify or black salsify, but also many aromatic , medicinal or ornamental plants: aster, chrysanthemum and so on.

The most commonly cultivated Asteraceae is the sunflower (Helianthus annuus). The surface areas dedicated to this crop amount to about 700 000ha in France, mainly distributed over the Midi-Pyrénées and Poitou-Charentes. This crop goes essentially for production of the culinary oil extracted from its seeds. This family also includes the salad "leaf" vegetables: lettuce, chicory, endive as well as plants cultivated for their inflorescence like artichoke or for their roots like salsify and black salsify.

In this highly diversified family, aphid species vary from frequent to occasional depending on the type of plant. For this reason we have drawn up different tables as set out below.
