Cultivated for their bulbs or leaves, the Liliaceae such as leek, onion, shallot and garlic, belong to a single genus, Allium. Asparagus (Asparagus), however, is grown for its rhizomes.

Great outbreaks of aphid propagation are not seen in crops of Allium. Colonies can develop on stored bulbs however.

Asparagus can be colonized by certain species of polyphagous aphids, although a new species, Brachycorynella asparagi,  originating from the eastern Mediterranean, has been discovered in the asparagus fields of the Languedoc. The same species has also been recorded in Sologne in the north-central part of the country
